A large mintage has made the 1841 O dime fairly common in circulated grades, though the same cannot be said for Mint State pieces. There were then no collectors of such coins to preserve them, and only a handful of pieces have survived by mere chance.
Both the Small O and Medium O mintmarks of 1840 were employed for this issue. The former is slightly more common, but the Large O carries no premium.
Of far greater interest to variety collectors is the New Orleans Mint's use of two obsolete reverse dies having the Closed Bud wreath typical of 1837-40 No Drapery dimes. These were paired with the normal Hughes obverse to create very rare transitional mules. One features the Small O mintmark and is slightly the more available of the two, while the other displays the Large O mintmark from 1839-40.
Nice and original 1841-O Liberty Seated Dime 10C
recently purchased from a large estate collection in which I bought the entirety of because of the originality and rarity of the coins which have not seen the light of day in over four decades! None of these coins have ever been sent to grading, and I refuse to mess with the grading services, so truth be told...Some of these coins are grand slams! No reserves and fast, free shipping as always!
