    Description

This is a very high-quality Hopi doll that I have decided to sell.  Over 20 years, I have only seen 6 or 7 Hopi dolls that are of this quality.  She was made by a Hopi woman in the likeness of herself and all the people that have come before her.  This beautiful doll is made from fabric and is firmly stuffed. She is dressed in the traditional clothing of the past Hopi women and of many Hopi women today. Her outfit consists of a pretty fabric dressed trimmed with lace.  Down the bodice of the dress there are little beads meant to resemble buttons (not shown - underneath black over dress).  Over her dress is a Hopi "apron" or second dress. This apron is made from black fabric. The sash around her waist is a piece of ribbon. The apron has red and green yarn stitchery around the bottom half (some stitches gone). On her feet are leather boots sewn with tiny, careful stitches.  Sweet facial features are drawn on her fabric face framed with black yarn hair (thin yarn) plaited into two braids in back. The traditional Hopi hairstyle later in life is short in the front and longer in back. The braids have ties at the bottoms.  This wonderful doll contains rich Hopi Pueblo history, is made with skilled dollmaking artistry, and would be a great addition to any American Indian doll collection. She stands 11 3/4" high.
